The Torus

Image
This task looks difficult at first however I found it to be pretty easy. I first start by putting the aluminium piece into the roller to get the general curve before hammering it. With the aid of a few peers, i was able to get the general shape easily by hammering the metal piece inwards and making sure i get rid of big bumps while my peers are holding the metal piece down to the stump as i found that clamping it doesn't work well. I then proceed to form the outer curves on a metal dolly using a planishing hammer before using the English wheel to smoothen everything out. I then proceed on sanding one side and polishing it. Overall I found this task to be challenging but not too difficult.

Project 1 - The Bowl

The first task for this project is a metal bowl which i thought to be straightforward however i found it to be challenging. I first cut out the circular shape before using a wooden jig to form the shape of the bowl. After asking the tutors figured out that the key in achieving the best shape is not the strength of each hit but instead the precision of each hit. After a while i moved on to the sand bag to get rid of a few bumps before moving on to the English wheel to smoothen everything out, I then proceed on sanding and polishing the surface. Overall i found this task to be challenging yet fun as it is a new experience for me
